MUMMIE’S MUSEUM

As already mentioned, the church of Santo Stefano with its foundations,  incorporates an existing church, which was used as a crypt. In 1806, after Napoleon 's Edict of Saint Cloud(was ordered to exhume the bodies buried in the churches to put them in cemeteries outside the walls) during the recovery work in the crypt of St Stephen, came to light perfectly mummified bodies.  A various scientifics studies concluded that the mummies were preserved by a rare  micro-fungus that attacked the bodies and turned them into mummies. You can still admire today the features of the face, ears, hair, teeth and all the skin layer. Single unresolved enigma is the origin of the property can be found in the surrounding area. Since 1998 has been set a museum inside the crypt.
